Colordle answer
A Colordle answer is a color name. The percent on each guess measures CIEDE2000 distance from that name, and 100.00% means the hex matches.
Searchers looking up “colordle answer” want the hidden name, not a definition. The name changes every Eastern Time day, so the live values sit on Colordle answer today. This page is the stable explanation of what that answer is and how it is scored.
What gets published
Each answer has three public parts: the day number, the display name, and the hex. The day number is 500 plus the count of calendar days since August 7, 2023. The name comes from the color list. The hex is the sRGB value stored with that name.
You do not type the hex into the game. You type a name. If two names share a hex, either name wins, because the check compares hex values.
How a guess is scored
The game converts both colors to CIE Lab and runs CIEDE2000, the small-difference formula recommended in CIE Publication 142-2001. Sharma, Wu, and Dalal (Color Research and Application, 2005) give implementation notes and show that a delta E near 1 matches a typical just-visible difference on small patches.
The on-screen percent is the absolute value of 100 minus that delta E. Identical colors score 100.00. A large Lab gap falls toward 0 and can pass it, which is why the result uses an absolute value. The how to play page walks through using that number. The solver lists names near a guess you already made, without looking up the daily answer.
Where the name comes from
Days that fall inside the first 1,016 indexes use a fixed schedule. After that, a seeded picker chooses from the daily pool. It drops blocklisted names, skips names already used, and tries to avoid a four-character overlap with the last three answers. The pool itself is on the color list. Older names are on the archive.
Hints for the current day, short of the full name, are on the hint page. The board itself is on the Play page.
What is a Colordle answer?
A Colordle answer is the color name hidden for one US Eastern day, plus the hex stored for that name. Guessing any name with that same hex also wins.
Where is the Colordle answer today?
The name and hex for the current Eastern Time day are on the answer today page. This page explains the format so that page can stay specific.
Does the answer page match the original daily sequence?
Yes. Day 500 is August 7, 2023. The first 1,016 names follow the published schedule, and later days use the same pool, blocklist, and seeded picker.
